Where Science and Practice meet
This conference is about the methods and tools for integrated operations, today and in the future. The place where science and practice meet. It will present the experience from some of the most advanced oil companies and system suppliers in this field today. It will also look ahead and reveal recent research results on future IO solutions from leading universities and research laboratories around the world. By contrasting today’s best practice with forwardlooking perspectives this will create a productive meeting place for generating new impulses in the further development of integrated operations practice. IO 08 will specifically highlight international aspects and has invited internationally recognized speakers from oil companies, service industry and universities.
Who should attend?
The IO 08 is organized for professionals from the oil and gas industries (oil companies, suppliers and R&D organizations) who have the responsibility for the development and implementation of new work processes, tools and information systems for integrated operations. IO 08 is also designed for those working with field development, reservoir management, wells and drilling, process control and maintenance, logistics, safety (HES), human resources and organizations, system development, research and IO management.
Topics and sessions
IO 08 will highlight aspects of the technologies that integrate people and work processes.
Conference venue
The IO 08 Science and Practice and SME Innovation Forum 2008 take place at SAS Radisson Royal Garden in Trondheim. Royal Garden is nicely located in the center of Trondheim at maritime environments.

International aspects
IO 08 will specifically highlight international aspects. We have prominent speakers from SaudiAramco, PetroBras, BG Group, Shell Smart Field Group, Stanford University, University of Central Florida and Groningen Gas Field System. Tofig A. Al-Dhubaib who is the Intelligent Field Team Leader at Saudi Aramco will be one of the prominent key-note speakers at the opening session together with Tony Edwards, Head of iValue at the BG Group and Professor Khalid Aziz from Smart Field R&D at Stanford university. We have also speakers and participation from our 4 cooperation universities to the IO Center: Stanford University, Technical University Delft, Carnegie Mellon University and Kyoto University.
Exhibition
An exhibition area will be organized with possibilities for company presentations during the conference.
Excursions and demonstration
Wednesday October 22. after the conference we organize excursions to StatoilHydro, Aker Reinertsen, IO Center and Cyber-lab at NTNU for demonstrations of different IO implementations in practice.
SME Innovation Forum
New of this year is a third day which is called the SME Innovation Forum organized Thursday 23 October. We want to create a work shop and network place for SME companies to discuss innovation and business challenges. The SME Innovation Forum is cooperation between the IO Center and 6 organizations at Innovation Norway and the Research Council of Norway. The participation at the SME Innovation Forum is by invitation only and is planned to be run in the Norwegian language.
Sponsoring organization
The conference is organized by the Center for Integrated Operations hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The IO Center was established in 2006, by leading international oil companies, system suppliers, academic institutions and the Research Council of Norway, with the objective to undertake research, innovation and education on integrated operations.
